International drug cartels have suffered yet a big blow to their finances following the interception and seizure of 1,187 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a more potent variation of cannabis. The operatives of the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in their usual cooperative manner jointly followed up on credible intelligence and intercepted the hard drugs at the Apapa Port, Lagos.
Recall that both sister agencies have barely a week ago intercepted 25.5kg of cocaine aboard a Brazilian-flagged vessel. Some see these recently recurring seizures as a direct effect of international cooperation as intensely sought by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the intensified offensive against narcotics trafficking through the various entry points in Nigeria.
The officials of both sister agencies had acted on intelligence report from the NDLEA, a resultant joint examination team uncovered the 2,374 sachets of the premium-grade cannabis carefully concealed in 55 bags hidden inside a 1x20ft container (No. FCIU 6369526) which was loaded with two imported vehicles. Each sachet was reportedly packed in 500-gramme portions.
Those in the habit of trading in these illicit items must be having a torrid time of it now as reports of seizures of hard drugs are now made almost on weekly basis. The MMAC Command, the Ports Terminal Multi-Services Limited Command, the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command, the Western Marine Command and the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service have all recently announced the seizure of hard drugs worth billions of naira.
