NEGF TO HONOUR MARITIME STAKEHOLDERS ON EASTERN FRONT

The Nigerian Economic Growth Forum (NEGF-Initiatives Concepts) has extended its Special Recognition and Appreciation to the Eastern Ports, describing them as the second largest maritime economy and a critical pillar of Nigeria’s national development.

The Founder/Convener of the initiative, Olamilekan Y. Adisa made this known while addressing the media on the importance of the Eastern Ports to the Nigerian economy.

According to him, the Eastern Ports, comprising Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri, Calabar, and other strategic terminals in the South-South and South-East corridors, remain indispensable to trade facilitation, revenue generation, job creation, and industrial growth. Mr. Adisa noted that despite decades of under-utilisation, the Eastern Ports have continued to contribute significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product through oil and gas logistics, containerised cargo, general cargo, and export activities.

Adisa explained that the 9th Anniversary of NEGF-Initiatives Concepts was specially designed to celebrate Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in making port operations a hub for business, investment and economic prosperity.

“This appreciation is in line with the procedure of our NGO – to say thank you to whom it is due. We believe that when people are appreciated for doing well, they are motivated to do more,” he said.

He emphasised that the Eastern Ports are not just loading and discharging points, but lifelines for millions of businesses in the South-East, South-South, and Northern corridors. A functional Eastern Port system, he said, would decongest the Lagos ports, reduce cost of doing business, and bring development closer to the people.

Adisa further disclosed that as part of the 9th Anniversary celebration, high-ranking officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority, licensed Clearing Agents, Transport Owners, Media Associations, and Port Users who have shown excellence, integrity, and dedication to duty are expected to be honoured.

He said the recognition is not political, but a moral obligation to spotlight excellence, encourage professionalism, and promote peaceful and business-friendly port operations across Nigeria.

“The Eastern Ports deserve attention, investment, and commendation. The men and women who keep them working, despite challenges, are national heroes. NEGF is here to celebrate them,” he added.

He called on the Federal Government, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and other relevant agencies to continue to invest in infrastructure, dredging, security, and modern equipment at the Eastern Ports to unlock their full potentials.

Hon. Olamilekan also urged stakeholders to remain committed to transparency, collaboration, and national interest, assuring that NEGF-Initiatives Concepts will continue to use its platform to promote economic growth, reward excellence, and build a stronger Nigeria.

The Special Recognition and Appreciation promises to be a honour of maritime giants, industry leaders, government officials, and media stakeholders, as NEGF continues its tradition of honouring those who make Nigeria work.
