The alleged shooting of a woman at the Igbogbele area of Badagry West by an officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service is generating a lot of concern. This incident has prompted Bashiru Yusuf Mohammed Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC) chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to issue a press statement which is fully published below:
The Community Development Committee (CDC), Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) under the leadership of Alhaji Bashiru Yusuf Mohammed, has expressed deep concern and total condemnation over the recent alleged shooting of a woman- Hunsu Elizabeth by an officer ( KASALI SEGUN) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Igbogbele Community, Badagry West.
This unfortunate incident is one too many. Our people have continuously suffered unjust harassment, intimidation, and inhumane treatment from some security personnel stationed across our communities. The CDC strongly condemns this reckless act and calls for a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute the officer involved.
We are calling on the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Honourable Minister of Interior, and other relevant government authorities and representatives to take decisive action to ensure justice is served. The sanctity of human life must be respected at all times, and such incidents must not be allowed to repeat themselves.
It is no longer news that the multiple checkpoints mounted across communities within Badagry West have become a source of tension and fear for residents, rather than protection. The CDC believes that these numerous checkpoints contribute to the rising cases of harassment and unprofessional conduct by some officers, leading to avoidable tragedies like this.
While we demand justice for the victim- Hunsu Elizabeth and her family, we also call for a total review of the operations of security agencies within our communities to prevent further loss of innocent lives. The CDC remains committed to peaceful coexistence and community development.
We therefore urge all residents to remain calm and law-abiding as we engage relevant authorities to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done. Violence or retaliation will only worsen the situation — let us allow the law to take its full course.
Together, we will continue to advocate for a peaceful, safe, and just Badagry West where human life and dignity are protected.
