The decoration of the 3,312 recently promoted officers by the Board of the Nigeria Customs Service continued at the Command level Thursday as the Western Marine Command, Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos performed the decoration of the 28 officers and 8 men of the Command who were part of the promotion excercise.
The Customs Area Controller of the Enforcement Command had used the very auspicious occasion to firstly address the officers, family members and journalists present on the activities of the Command since he came into office.
He detailed some of the acheivements of the Command over the period to include:
1. The evacuation vation excercise to reclaim the area in front of the Command that had been taken over by hoodlums.
2. A large block signpost with Greenfield landscaping around it and with the inscription ‘Western Marine Command’.
3. The Marine symbol which has been built right inside the compound after the sentry house.
4. The rebuilding and enlargement of the Command’s jetty to accommodate more patrol boats.
5. The construction and renovation of the Customs outposts at Ere and Bar Beach and the work which is starting on the renovation of the Igbokoda station.
6. The repair and renovation of 4 patrol boats including the refurbishment of 2 new patrol vehicles to support land-side operations.
7. The building of toilet facilities and canteen within the Command as a way of taking care of the welfare of officers.

Comptroller Ntadi also disclosed that recently, the Command has made many seizures which include:
One thousand, eight hundred and twenty seven bags of foreign parboiled rice with a duty paid value of ₦204,624,000.00.
One hundred and seventy four sacks of Amsul with a DPV of ₦15,660,000.00
Eighty six sacks of polypropylene compound with a DPV of ₦4,512,000.
Seventeen sacks of Cannabis indica containing one thousand, three hundred and twelve loaves and consisting of:
(A) Arizona loud (1,126 loaves) with a DPV of ₦177,030,000.00.
(B) Scottish loud (80 loaves) with a DPV of ₦29,400,000.00 .
(C) Ghana loud (106 loaves) with a DPV of ₦26,386,500,00.
42 kegs of 50 litres of premium motor spirit with a DPV of ₦1,943,000.00.
One 60hp engine with a DPV of ₦5,260,000.00
Eleven 40hp engine with a DPV of ₦55,440,000.00.
One 25hp engine with a DPV of ₦3,150,000.00
One 200hp engine with a DPV of ₦9,450,000.00
Eleven locally made cover boat with a DPV of ₦46,200,000.00
Three wooden boats with a DPV of ₦3,150,000.00.

Others include 157 bags of Ammonium Sulphate and 80 bags of PVC Materials which are usually stolen by people with very bad intentions.
All the seized items have a duty paid value (DPV) of ₦582,207,000.00.
The handing over of the seized drugs was performed as the Assistant Commamder-General of Narcotics, OB Wakawa of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Apapa Special Area Command was on hand to receive the seized narcotics.

ACGN Wakawa had said that “the need to get rid of hard drugs in our society cannot be over-emphasised. A small quantity of these seized drugs is very expensive because they have been genetically modified and processed to be more addictive”.
The decoration excercise which preceded the handing over of the seized drugs had a total of 36 Customs personnel from the Command wearing their new ranks.
