ANTI-SMUGGLING WAR: OYO/OSUN COMMAND SEIZES ITEMS WORTH OVER ₦3.2B, GENERATES OVER ₦28.5B IN THREE MONTHS

The general atmosphere of insecurity and uncertainty notwithstanding, the authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service have continued to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

The various Commands and Units realising the arduous nature of the general social and economic situation have taken more to intelligence-driven modes of operation and this has yielded more positive results and the now usual great performances being recorded and showcased.

In light of the results, Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Wale Moses Adewole had a press briefing Thursday and used the opportunity to highlight some of the Command’s most recent performances.

DC Adewole gave credence to the actions of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi as the management team of the NCS saying that their visionary leadership, strategic direction and unwavering support have continued to enhance the operational effectiveness of all Commands as Units across the Service.

The CAC said “through sustained intelligence-driven operations, enhanced collaboration with sister security agencies, and the dedication and professionalism of the officers and men of the Command, significant successes have been recorded in our anti-smuggling operations within the period under review.”

Among the items intercepted were:

Foreign Parboil Rice, 1537 (50kg Bags),
Used Clothing, 102 Bales, 13 Sacks, used Shoes (56) Sacks, used Tyres (1,105 Pieces), used Compressor (462 Pieces), sugar(106 Bags), foreign Spaghetti (48 Cartons),
foreign Macaroni (60 Packs), foreign Vegetables (505 Bottles), Cannabis Sativa
(1,769 Wraps), Tramadol 250mg (2,158 Sachets), Analgin Injection (4 Pieces) Hiegra 300mg (4 Pieces), Hiegra 200mg (4 Pieces),
Mygra 200mg (4 Pieces).

Pump Action rifles (3 Pieces), Tramadol 250mg (3437 Packs)
Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),
604 (25 Liters kegs =15,100 Liters),
Pharmaceuticals (142 Cartons) Ice
(2 Sachets), Colorado (5 Wrap), Canadian Laud (3 Wraps),Rohypnol 1mg 20 Sachets and 9 cars of different brands were also seized.

The cumulative duty paid value (DPV) of all the seized items is out at The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of these seizures stands at Three Billion, Two Hundred and Twenty-One Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy-Two Naira (₦3,221,843,672.00K).

DC Adewole says “these interceptions have helped safeguard the nation’s economy, protect local industries, enhance public safety, and frustrate the activities of economic saboteurs and criminal elements”.

Again, in the area of revenue generation, the Command collected the sum of Twenty-Eight Billion, Five Hundred and Three Million, Three Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Two Naira, Seventy-Five Kobo (₦28,503,393,802.75) between March and May 2026. This amount represents an 8% increase when compared with the sum of Twenty-Six Billion, Two Hundred and Thirty-Three Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety-Six Naira, Fifty-Seven Kobo (₦26,233,796,496.57) generated during the corresponding period in 2025.

The CAC added that “the Command will today present Commendation Awards to deserving officers and men who have distinguished themselves through exemplary conduct, exceptional dedication, and outstanding service delivery. These awards are intended to recognize merit, encourage professionalism, and motivate officers and men to continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and service excellence. I heartily congratulate all award recipients and commend the entire workforce of the Oyo/Osun Area Command for their resilience and commitment”.

DC Adewole also expresses his sincere appreciation to stakeholders, sister security agencies, members of the business community, and the media for their continued partnership, cooperation, and support to the Command.
