The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has coducted its house of representative and senatorial primaries with others coming in tow. Other political parties are also about to conduct their own primary elections too and interesting outcomes are being recorded all over the country.

The mini conference room of the Lagos Travel Inn on Moday, the 18th of May afternoon held a crowd of politicians as well as journalists. The occasion was the formal declaration of Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal as a Governorship candidate under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Lagos State.

Mr. Jim-Kamal who described himself as an original Lagosian of the Awori stock seeks to have an aboriginal Lagosian at the helm in Alausa for the first time since 1999. At the press briefing, Jim-Kamal unveiled his vision for the state and called for a peaceful and credible primary process.

Mr. Jim-Kamal said “I have absolute respect for my party and that is why I am contesting under the umbrella of the APC. The electoral Act of 2026 provides for open primaries, I am taking advantage of that. The president of the nation has also promised a level playing field, not to influence the outcomes of any election within the party and you can see that in the results of the already conducted primaries”.

On questions about the indigenous people
of Lagos, Mr. Jim-Kamal said that “we want to take our place in the scheme of things in Lagos State. Time has passed when people used the excuse of lack of qualified persons to keep us out of Lagos politics. Our time has come. I have also chosen Abiola Okoya, the daughter of businessman, Razak Okoya as my running mate”.

As the APC primary election draws closer, party delegates are expected to cast their votes next Thursday to determine the party’s governorship flag bearer for the forthcoming election.
