The National Single Window is defined internationally as a facility that allows parties involved in trade and transport to lodge a standardised information and documents with a single entry.
The efforts to inaugurate the NSW as a domesticated platform for common documentation especially within the import/export business areas have been gathering steam since mid last year and the federal government is determined to see it come to fruition.
Another stakeholders meeting held at the main hall of the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday where the director of the project Tola Fakolade as well as the representative of the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs were on hand to make presentations on the subject matter.
The event was anchored by Chief Supretendent of Customs, Luqman Abiola Abdullahi-Lagos, the public relations officer of the Lekki Free Trade Zone Command of the Nigeria Customs Service who noted that “Today’s gathering is geared towards improving dialogue and engendering knowledge of the essence of the National Single Window Project”.
The representative of ACG Babandede,was Deputy Comptroller of Customs T A Fagbohun who noted that the key part of the platform is the availability of the tools for easy access to information for documentation purposes and records, aligning with key digital processes and an end to paper approach to organised procedures.

His words ” This platform reduces time spent on documentation, reduces costs and blocks revenue leakages and this will in turn engender growth and robust development of the trade environment for better economic benefits.
The director of the National Single Window Project, Tola Fakolade welcomed everyone to the event as he hopes that each and everyone would leave the venue with lots of knowledge of the operational guidelines and functions of the project. He reiterates that the NSW simplifies trade, revenue generation and will increase transparency.
He gave an overview of the whole project and detailed what the NSW is NOT. These include:
Not a platform for taking away the jobs or roles of any agency.
Not one to take away the revenue of any agency.
Not being a tool for the National Revenue Service.
Not also being a tool for exposing non-tax prayers.
Not here to compete with agencies, but to collaborate.

Mr. Fakolade lists the objectives of the NSW as:
To provide a single entry point.
To create just one single portal.
To always take in a single submission.
To provide a segregation of duties.
Has traceability and auditability features.
It also provides a centralised shared risks.
There was an interactive session where Mr. Fakolade made a clarification about whether the National Single Window will run side-by-side with the Unified Customs Management Systems also known as B’Odogwu, the director indicated that the two platforms will run side-by-side.
