Story by Dili Utomi.

The leaders of the Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association (NPMA) an umbrella body of about 58 majors markets in Lagos State led by their president, Comrade Chinedu Ukatu, Wednesday visited the palace of the new Ogboni Idunafa of Lagos, Chief Gbolahan Oki.

The visit had a three pronged objectives. First, the leaders felt the need to pay a courtesy visit to the chief who was a general manager and later a permanent secretary at the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA).

Again, there are urgent reasons for the market leaders and their members to seek collaboration in a bid to create a more conducive business environment between them and the Lagos State government.

The resolution of the most recent misunderstanding that has led to losses being incurred by the traders as a direct result of burnt/demolished markets is also a reason for the meeting. Since the last fire incident at the Bologun market, the area has since been cordoned off and the traders have continued to count their losses.

The traders are hoping to leverage on the experience and political clout of the revered chief to resolve most of the issues that plague them while doing their business in Lagos.

The discussions were open, honest and fruitful. The traders all left the palace happier than before the visit as they got some level of assurances from chief Oki.
Mostly on the entourage of the President are leaders of major markets Association on Lagos Island .

After the visit, the president of NPMA, Comrade Ukatu categorically stated to the press “We shall not relent in our advocacy and the push for collaboration for the betterment of our business environment and ultimately the welfare of our members.
