The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Nigeria Customs Service has continued their commitment to the facilitation of legitimate trade, preventing smuggling, enforcing Customs laws, and protecting national revenue with greater focus on ensuring compliance, safeguarding public health and promoting efficient trade operations at the terminals.
This much was disclosed by the Acting Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Luqman Adigun while briefing the press, Friday at the handing over of 1×20-foot container, GESU3900612 containing 440 bags of 25kg of expired raw material (known as Triple Pressed Stearic Acid) from Indonesia with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦36, 556, 539 (Thirty Six Million, Five hundred and fifty six thousand, five hundred and thirty nine naira), to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The Acting CAC also disclosed that the Container was examined sometime around late 2024 and the content was found to have had just a month before expiration. It was therefore detained to avoid it being sold to the unsuspecting public pending instructions from the headquarters on the next line of action.
In a related enforcement duty, the Command made another seizure with the interception of a 1×40-foot container, MSKU 4798018, intercepted at Joliz Terminal. The container was discovered to contain items that were falsely declared as zipped luggage but found to contain empty suitcases with a Duty Paid Value(DPV) of Five Million, Ten Thousand Naira (₦5,010,000.00).
In the area of revenue, during the period of January to December 2025, the Command recorded a total revenue generation of One Hundred and Forty-Seven Billion, Two Hundred and Sixteen Million, One Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Thirty-Three Naira and Eighty-One Kobo (₦147,216,149,033.81) as against a revenue target of One Hundred and Nine Billion, Four Hundred and Forty-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Nine Naira and Eighty-Six Kobo (₦109,442,892,919.86).
The seized filled with 440 bags of stearic acid.
It is a significant increase compared with the same period in 2024, which stood at One Hundred and Seven Billion, One Hundred and Eighty-Two Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Four Naira (₦107,182,674,904.00), representing a 35 percent growth.
Deputy Comptroller Adigun reiterates that “the Command remains steadfast in facilitating legitimate trade while decisively enforcing Customs laws. Stakeholders and the general public are assured that the Command will continue to block revenue leakages, combat illegal importation, and support national health and security objectives throughout the year”.
The whole container of 440 bags of 25kg, expired Triple Pressed Stearic Acid which was imported from Indonesia was according to inter-agency cooperation handed over to the representative of NAFDAC, Oluwaseun Ogunjinmi, the chief regulatory officer at the agency.
DC Adigun flanked to his left by Mr. Ogunjinmi in green attire while fielding questions from journalists.
Mr. Ogunjinmi noted that “the synergy has always helped to curb falsified products, substandard products and expired products from reaching the vulnerable public. I pray that the synergy continues”.
On the issue of stakeholders compliance to the rules guiding the clearing of goods the CAC in an interview disclosed that “We have been speaking with stakeholders on the need to comply with extant laws and the rules guiding our operations here and they have been quite cooperative”.
Deputy Comptroller Adigun also disclosed that the heads of the mother ports where containers are initially discharged before being moved through Transire to the KLT Command have been very understanding and cooperative.
The CAC lauds the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the cooperation of stakeholders who do legitimate businesses and the media for their objective reporting of the activities at the Command.
