It was a great a spectacle on the 16th of September as friends and families of actress, brand ambassador and social media influencer, May Yul-Edochie took a long convoy of cars to a particular place for a certain event.
The day had started with a church service at Church in Lekki with May Yul-Edochie who was celebrating her birthday attending the morning mass with family and friends. After the morning mass, all road led to Labora, Aboji commanuity in Ibeju Lekki local government area.
In spite of the torrential downpours and pervasive wet conditions, everyone braved it to the community where gift items and training materials awaited the poor of the community.
In all, over 200 women from Labora community got bags of 5 kilograms rice, 5 litres cooking oil, children’s soaps, wigs and sanitary pads, these cost millions of naira in the usual annual charity gesture. The most impressive thing on the day was the announcement of a training programme as 50 community women shall become makeup artists and shall have training with make-up chairs, lighting equipment and makeup kits containing full range of beauty makeup products given to the. Some of her friends also volunteered some cash and training programmes of their own for the women of the area. These items are worth 1 million naira and are meant for each of the 50 women.
These items were mainly donated by the May Oasis Foundation which the celebrant set up some four years ago .
These were all distributed to the women who have either previously registered their names or who just went to the event.
After the distribution of the gift and training materials we spoke with Queen May as she is fondly called as well as some of her friends.
She said ” At May Oasis Foundation, we believe that women hold the home, if you train a woman, you train the home and we as a foundation, we want to help women to achieve their aims to have sustainable lives”
“We are here also to do food sharing, bring with us over 200 bags of 2 kilograms rice for over 200 women, cooking oil, kiddies soaps and sanitary pads. We are also empowering people with training and equipment worth over ₦1 million each for 50 persons-make up equipment, chairs, camera and light for videos”.
She added “May Oasis Foundation was birthed from certain personal circumstances that I went through, instead of wallowing in self pity, I decided to involve myself in a laudable venture such as this Foundation. So I drew my strength from the experiences that I have garnered over time to put up this entity”.
Her words “I would want people to be smart, productive, be able to fend for themselves and stop being idle. I pulled myself up from the boot strap and I am doing pretty well for myself now and would want others to follow suit”.
Commissioner DJ Wysei, one of her friends said. “We are here to support our friend Queen May and she is a great friend, a lovable person and one that is exemplary in behaviour, I wish her long life and all the good things of life”.
Amb. Chinaza Jennifer Ugboaja said of Queen May “We are here to celebrate with a social media influencer and a philanthropist. That is why we are here today and also to give alms to the needy. If you look around you, you will find a lot of women who are benefiting from this noble gesture including the training that they will get. I wish her a happy birthday and may she continue to wax stronger”.
