Story by Dili Utomi.

“For years, I watched as traders struggled under the weight of bribes, as transporters calculated “unofficial” costs alongside fuel and repairs; and as honest entrepreneurs lost hope. It became clear to me that corruption in the supply chain is not an abstract problem — it affects every meal, every product on a shell and ultimately, every household”.

The above quote is part of the preface as
the main hall of the Rockview hotel in Festac Town, Lagos became the venue of the book launch, Thursday. Major players in the Maritime sector as well as the general public gathered together for the launch of the book from where the quote was drawn, it has the title ‘The Toll of Corruption in Nigeria’.

The book which was authored by Dr. Basil Chudi Nwolisa, a tenacious anti-corruption crusader and a man with over twenty years of experience in the Maritime sector deals with the many negative impacts on Nigeria and her people.

The book takes one through the harsh realities of dealing with very corrupt and corruptive tendencies and the damage that these wreck on the lives of the people.

Part of the opening address of the author reads “I invite you all to join me in celebrating this acheivement and in recommitting to a future where transparency, accountability and integrity guide our actions”.

The author dwelt largely on the overall effects of corruption within the Maritime sector as he attempted to chat the way forward in order that the socioeconomic environment can improve for all .

In an interview at the side of the launch, Dr. Nwolisa noted that “this book has become a kind of code of conduct for many. It has been on sale on internet for two months now and I have been receiving good reviews from people all over the country. This book is a call for revolution against corruption in all aspects of our national lives and the enthronement of transparency and accountability in all public dealings”.

The guests at the event were obviously impressed with the work and many took time to launch the book with very good reviews as well as the donations that follow.
