The recent elevation of officers in the ranks of the Nigeria Customs Service as well as some retirements have necessitated readjustment of positions. A clear conformity to natural and professional inclinations, some Area Commands of the Service have started receiving new officers at the helms.
Today, the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command had a change of guard with Comptroller Olanrewaju Abdulwahab Olumoh who was retiring from active service handing over to Comptroller Hawa KA Abubakar.
Comptroller Olumo whose tenure had witnessed a great surge especially in terms of generated revenue spoke rather firmly albeit emotionally about his period at the Command. He revealed that “between January and August this year that the Command has been able to generate four hundred and fifty nine billion, eight hundred and forty eight million, four hundred and twenty thousand, three hundred and forty four naira, seventy seven kobo (₦459,848,420,344.77k) only”.
In the whole of 2024, the Command had generated three hundred and fifty nine billion, nine hundred and ninety nine million, three hundred and sixty sixty
thousand, three hundred and sixty eight naira (₦359,999,366,368.00) only
This amount is huge compared to the seventy four billion, forty eight million, two hundred and forty nine to thousand, nine hundred and forty five naira (₦74,048,249,945.00) only recorder for 2023.
The generated revenue in 2025 shows about 500% rise in total amount received over the past two years. The outgoing CAC says that this performance is indicative of the professionalism and dedication of the officers.
Comptroller Olumoh also credited the success that the Command achieved under him to great stakeholders relationship, the use of technology and the great support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi. He thanked the press for objective coverage and reportage of all the events at the Command under his watch and craves same attention for his successor.
The new Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Hauwa KA Abubakar praised the excellent performance of her predecessor as she sought the cooperation of all to make her tenure as much successful.
