The political imbroglio that had pervaded the ranks of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA) appears to be fast waning if recent events are to be considered. The Emenike Nwokeoji led association has been moving from one conciliatory programme to the other so far.
The association which has been embroiled in one crisis or the other since 2018 seems to be witnessing a new dawn of agreement among members leading to elections being conducted within the two major zones of the body. The Eastern zone has had its election while the Western Zone also organised its own election with four chapters electing a new executive committee albeit one being inconclusive.
On Thursday the 27th of March, the president of the association, Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji and some members of his team visited the Tin Can Island Port chapter of the association as the new executive committee members led by Prince Olawale Cole were fully on ground to receive them.
The programme of the day started with the reopening of the renovated chapter office and it’s new clinic. At the occasion, the chapter chairman, Olawale Cole spoke about the leadership qualities of the national President of the association. He also commended the various efforts of his predecessors. Chairman Cole categorically stated that there is no more faction within the chapter and that they “are now under one umbrella and operating as one big family”. He appealed for the support of all members and also asked of good advice from his senior colleagues.
The second arm of the programme took the association to the office of the Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka. At the CAC’s office, the president of the association, Mr. Nwokeoji who was accompanied some members of his executive committee and that of the chapter, he also commended Comptroller Onyeka for streamlining all alerts on cargoes and eradicating delays in cargo delivery. The ANLCA president thanked the CAC for the collaborative efforts that he is making and the new found synergy that everyone is witnessing at the Command right now.
Comptroller Onyeka on his part appreciated the ANLCA president and every member of the association for their important roles in raising the revenue of the Command and hopes that the cooperation is moves beyond expectations. He buttressed his open door policy and asked that honest declarations should continue to be made by all stakeholders.
The last leg of the event was back at the office of the association where the newly renovated structure was toured. The president was the first to be tested by the already waiting nurses who were on hand to do a quick medical check on everyone present.
We asked the public relations officer at the chapter, Onome Joy A. a few questions about the event of the day and she said “Today is an opportunity to reopen our secretariat, welcome our president and visit the Customs Area Controller and to have that new feeling of cooperation celebrated as one big family. We are also very much now committed to serve all Licensed Customs Agents/Freight Forwarders and ask that everyone should take advantage of the opportunities presented by this new team”.
