Parents, dignatories, well wishers and journalists on Saturday thronged the sporting complex of the Command Secondary School, Ipaja Lagos to witness their 35th inter-house sports competition.
The occasion which had a touch of style was chaired by Comrade Abiodun Olumide Fatoki, an aspirant to the upcoming chairmanship position for Ayobo/Ipaja Local Council Development Area with a lot of the old students also in attendance. The chairman spoke some words of exhortation to all the athletes competing on the day and also encouraged everyone to take up one sport or the other for healthy living.
The chairman also spoke about certain commitments that he has taken up which are both in cash and kind. He has also taken up the job of renovating the staff quarters at the school as he promises to engage in sponsoring some students of the school academically.
The Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Olalekan Dimeji Bamiteko opened the ceremony with words of encouragement to all the students and athletes participating in the sporting event, but certainly not before all the military protocols of march past and the introduction of the different houses had been done.

Five different houses namely; stallion, tiger, dragon, hippopotamus and rhinoceros competed for all categories of medals in track and field events for both boys and girls.
18 other schools were also invited to join in competing for honours in different categories too as future national and world beaters in athletics were expected to be discovered at the event.
As the event progressed, this news platform popped some questions to the Commandant of the school, Lt. Bamiteko, his responses are: “If you understand what the work of the Nigerian Army is, you will know that you cannot divorce the Nigerian Army from physical activities such as sports, we have produced sports people who have made the nation proud before. Sports can take you to the national and international level. I would want to complement the efforts that is ongoing by all sporting bodies right now and I hope that soon the fruits of all our efforts will be realised”.
We also spoke to the chairman of the day, Comrade Abiodun Olumide Fatoki and he said “What I have seen here today especially with the massive crowd shows a convergence of people of different faiths, gender and persuasion and it shows that sport is still a key unifying factor for all considerations, governance, social and all. We have to bring sports to every level for everyone to participate in as this is a veritable area for positive development. The seriousness of sport to the military is what has brought about this magnificent occasion as they have always taken sports as integral part of their daily activities. We should all always try to take to sport as it enhances healthy living”. He concluded.
