TCIP COMMAND SEIZES TRAMADOL WORTH #550M, OTHER ILLEGAL ITEMS, ARRESTS 2.

There was a beehive of activities Monday at the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service as the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Adekunle Stephen Oloyede addressed the press and also took the many journalists present at the occassion round some of the Terminals. This was in a bid to display some seized items which have been illegally imported into Nigeria.

CAC Oloyede while briefing the Journalists said that the officers of the Command through intelligence and inter-agency cooperation got the information that a vessel named MV Pellion had on board some cargoes of illicit nature. On discharge, the 2×4 foot containers were moved to the enforcement unit and on examination, some concealed illegal medicaments originating from India were discovered, but that what was originally declared on the documents was electronics.

The details of the seized items include Five (5) cartons of Timaking 120 Tapentadol (Tramadol) Hydrochloride Carisoprodol capsule. Each carton contains 50 rolls, each rolls contains 5 packets, each packet 200 tablets.

Eighty-Four (84) cartons of Gastro Resistant Omeprazole capsule BP 200mg. Each carton contains 50 packets, each packet contains 10 capsules.

Eight Hundred and Seventy-Six (876) cartons of CSMIX cough syrup containing Codeine (each bottle 100ml). Each carton contains 200 bottles. Fifty (50) cartons of Manual Grater Machine — 70 pieces per carton as means of concealment. One (1) carton of Ceiling Fan as a means of concealment.

The bundles of dollars totalling $54,300 collected as exhibit from the suspects.

The second container also had in it Ten (10) cartons of Super Royal 225 (Tramadol). Each carton contains 50 rolls, each roll contains 10 packets, each packet 10 tablets. One Hundred and Five (105) cartons of Omeprazole Capsule BP 200mg. Each carton contains 50 packets, each packet contains 10 capsules. Seven Hundred and Fifty-Four (754) cartons of Barcadin with Codeine (each bottle 100ml). Each carton contains 200 Bottles. Fifty (50) cartons of Manual Grater Machine – 70 pieces per carton as means of concealment. One (1) carton of Compo Ceiling Fan as means of concealment.

CAC Oloyede noted that the medicaments have not been registered by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and that “Two suspects have been arrested and are presently at the custody of the Enforcement Unit in accordance with the investigation process of the Service and that the suspects pleaded for their freedom from detention and release of the containers while offering gratification to the tune of #50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Naira only) equivalent to $54,330 (Fifty-Four Thousand Three Hundred and Thirty Dollars only, as displayed) at the current exchange rate of N920. The money was collected and kept in safe custody at the Enforcement Unit to be tendered as exhibit”.

The duty paid value of the seized drugs is Five Hundred and Fifty Million,Two Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty Nine naira (#550,265,000,699.00) only

The area head also noted that 1×40 foot container filled with imported poultry was discovered and seized in the course of their duty as he added that the suspects and the seized illicit medicaments will be handed over to headquarters for further action.
